First off, I want to show you my current drying rack... Eerrr, it's not even those retractable rods that are pre-installed in the new BTO units. We bought our resale house about 1.5 years ago. (1.) My primary problem is the unpredictable weather in Singapore. I totally stopped hanging outdoors in the conventional HDB drying racks. This gives me peace of mind knowing that when it rains and I am sleeping or out of the house, none of my laundry will be drenched.
(2.) Turns out the second problem will be the hanging space indoors. Having kids who change clothes 3-4 times a day, the laundry piles up so fast and you tend to wash almost everyday.
(3.) Third, the hanging part is a bit of a challenge. It is very tiring to use the hanging stick and rods especially when the rack is too high and the clothes are heavy like suits, jackets, blankets and curtains.
(4.) Then, when the clothes are too crowded, with poor ventilation, the clothes tend to smell or dry too slow. Sometimes it takes a whole day. Nothing really beats drying in the sun. How I wish I could bring the sun indoors.

The system has an obstacle detection feature and immediately stops upon contact on the object (i.e. top of the head). I remember once when I was hanging the laundry, the rod accidentally fell on top of the table where my favorite glass cake stand was. It was shattered to pieces and I was heart broken.
